DENGIE TEAM SHOW JUMPING - 16th
October,
2011
OSB had two teams out for Novice SJ and 8 riders
for the Dengie at Sands Farm 16th Oct 2011.
Team 2: Bryony McPake, Josh Lane, Elizabeth Mathews, Megan
Bruce-Smythe, first to jump they all did a great job finishing
with no faults to go to a jump off, Josh and Megan jumped which
was very brave of Megan given this was her first team event with
OSB, both Meg and her gorgeous young pony Wallis completed two
really good rounds, the jump off ended with just 4 faults, Josh
had a nice round but with 4 faults also which put the team into
3rd place over all. WELL DONE TO YOU ALL..... Fizz once again
delighted everyone with her unique style !
Team 1. Hannah Marshall, Hannah Simpson, Hannah Martin and Katie
Rennie, all the girls did lovely rounds, Hannah Martin and Katie
both riding nice clear rounds, Hannah S and Hannah Marshall both
finished with an unlucky pole each, the team finished on 4
faults total, placed 5th over all which was a nice result. Well
done to two individual OSB riders who jumped clear rounds
earlier, Ellie and Kathrine, we hope to see you out lots more on
your ponies and hope you enjoyed your day.
Eight OSB Riders took part in the Dengie at the end of the day
with 44 entries in a single phased round. Hannah Simpson on
Pattie placed 6th with a good fast round, Hannah Martin on Etty,
coming 8th also did lovely round, both on horses who found it
hard to match those quick, nippy ponies ! A mention for Megan
who also did a brilliant round to go clear and finish 13th in
her first Dengie. Bryony, Josh, Hannah Marshall, Katie
and Elizabeth also took part with just a few faults putting them
out of the placings but they all jumped round well. We look
forward to seeing everyone who took part again soon, it was a
really good fun day in the sun, very social for us parents too!
Thank you Susie King for putting the teams in and coming down to
support us all in the afternoon, it was unfortunate the little
ones did not get the chance to have a team this time, all pony
clubs can only take so many teams, ours were unlucky not to get
in on this occasion due to numbers......next time !!!
See you all soon....
NATIONAL PONY CLUB NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
The excitement of 2 teams qualify for Show
Jumping at Area, one individual Dressage rider (Bekka Barrow on
Delta) and individual Event rider (Holly Arnold on Rocky) was
fantastic.
Teams 1: Hannah Marshall, Hannah Simpson, Alice and Heidi
Cousins qualified, Hannah Marshall unable to attend the Champs
was substituted by Bekka Barrow.
Team 2: Katie Rennie, Elizabeth Mathews, Bryony McPake and
Hannah Martin, second team which won the Area comp in great
style.
After a busy Camp week prior to Champs we were left with one day
for a team training session, being the Wednesday before we left
on Friday 26th early for Cheshire. The training session did not
go as well as expected, horses may have been tired but every
horse had poles/stops in between some nice jumping, not the best
set up for big comp, however being positive it was planned that
I would take Jilly with Etty, Sarah Danial with Fiz and Sam.
Bekka's horse went on own, Sue King very generously offered to
driver her lorry up with Clancy, Prince and Patey. Pattey's
rider Hannah Simpson was flying home from holiday the day before
to ride, at least that was the plan, her flight went tech, over-nighted
in Nepal, next flight cancelled, three horses of second team due
to leave mid day on Friday, loaded onto lorry, Sue suffered a
puncture M25 by Heathrow airport, spent several hours waiting to
be repaired with horses by this time distressed, once mended it
was so late in the day it was decided to withdraw team 1, the
horses were taken home, it would have been so late to get them
up to Cheshire and compete after more hours than legally allowed
on horsebox, (max 8 hours), how sad for all with so much effort
put in, we were very sad for them but needed to keep the riders
in Cheshire in high spirits. We arrived midday on 26th having
had a good journey, settled horses into stables, made to feel
very welcome, made camp, exercised horses in afternoon for a
stretch over the glorious (wet) but beautiful part of Cheshire.
Our first night at Kelsall was interesting ! It rained/poured
all night, some thunder and lightening but all Ok in the
morning.
Our team not jumping till 1.30pm 1st round, 3pm 2nd round, we
had time to prepare for Tack/Turn Out judge which is taken very
seriously indeed at this level, the team looked a picture,
special thanks to Sue Barrow who helped plait/polish all those
that needed help, generally assisted with the horses and riders
after Bekka had done her Dressage and SJ round. Bekka and Delta
finished SJ indiv on 12 faults I think which was not so bad
given so slippery wet under foot as well as over head!. Bekka
and Sue were such amazing good sports as they had the
disappointment of not having their team to jump with, they
understood and got on with the day...... Bekka had permission to
ride SJ as indiv given circumstances. Bekka had her dressage
warm up in torrential rain, did a brilliant test to finish 6th
over all, fantastic result, well done Bekka, Delta and Sue for
getting them there.
First to jump Hannah, a little uncertain if Etty will perform
but she did not let Hannah down, she jumped very well just
clipped a pole, Hannah kept her nerve to keep Etty focused to
finish on 4 faults. Elizabeth next, Fiz with her own unique
style always a delight to watch, jumped around, found the ground
slippery, had a stop with a pole otherwise she was a star.
Bryony on Jilly started their round in nice style having just
one unlucky stop and a pole this left Katie last to go, Sammy
always looking stylish, he had a stop and a pole. Relieved to
get one round out the way our second round started with warm up
in torrential rain, Hannah's main concern being water tray with
Etty who can sometimes decide not to continue on, loveable Etty
did take a look at the water tray and stopped but Hannah turned
her and flew it 2nd time just catching the pole on her way,
Bryony next slid into first fence then jumped nicely round with
a pole too, Fiz delighted everyone but found the ground hard to
get hoof hold, with a stop and pole, Sammy again started
beautifully but had a couple of faults which as a team the end
result was a lovely cricket score. We were placed 5th in Turn
out which was very pleasing after all the effort, it was a good
thing for the children too as it is all part of the discipline
that goes with perfection, well deserved too, they received a
lovely rosette and a prize each, they received their plaque's
donated by the NFU Mutual Sponsors, lots of photo's and the
hoodies of course. Holly Arnold had her Dressage on Sat pm,
scored 36 which was good, her show jumping in pouring rain gave
her a few faults as did cross country but she did really well to
complete and am sure they will have learned from and enjoyed
their experience too, well done Holly for getting there.
I can only finish by saying that anyone reading this would
wonder why we would travel so far to come back with not a great
jumping result this time, my reply would be, it is the best
experience the children can have at this level, what it teaches
them is priceless, as parents we had so much fun, think we
should show the film at special evening as Mrs McPake should be
on TV after Pimms o'clock ! Despite the rain we had a ball, they
are privileged to have had the chance to go, Hannah and I
enjoyed it a great deal, I hope/and think all the children
enjoyed it, 5 of them slept in the back of my lorry, we had
bacon rolls, food was provided between us, drink plentiful to
fend off the rain! we ALL ! behaved ourselves ! Thank you Sue
King for all that you did to get the teams there and for your
good advice and help.

Elizabeth Matthews, Hannah Martin,
Bryony McPake, Katie Rennie with their turnout rosettes and
horse shampoo!
AREA 11 TEAM SHOW JUMPING - 17th July,
2011
Hosted by West
Kent (Sevenoaks) Branch of the Pony Club
Novice Championships Area
Qualifier
OS&B Show Jumpers Take
Brilliant 1st and 2nd at Area Qualifier
There were 26 teams taking
part in this event. OS&B were lucky enough to have 2 teams
entered for this. The first team consisted of Hannah Marshall
riding Tothamhill Rhodri, Hannah Simpson riding Fellside
Patience, Alice Cousins riding Okehurst Double Trouble and Heidi
Cousins riding Take Two (OSB 1). The second team was made up of
Hannah Martin riding Odecia Van Hoversynde, Katie Rennie riding
Sammy Strawberry, Bryony McPake riding Gingerbread Gilly and
Elizabeth Matthews riding Fizz (OSB 2).
Everyone arrived at the show
ground in good time and we all slid in as the ground was already
rather wet! We were so hoping for a dry day however this was
most definitely not to be the case! The girls walked the course
together – it was a challenging course, up-to-height and the
ground not ideal – rutty and wet!
Then onto our tack
check/tack and turnout competition; this was extremely thorough
and Hannah M, Hannah S, Alice and Heidi were thrilled to come 4th
in this competition. Both teams looked very smart.
Both teams had fabulous
first rounds with all riders and ponies jumping beautifully.
OSB 1 finished on a total of 4 faults and OSB 2 had 0 faults
which put them in joint (along with 2 others) first place at
this stage. After this the heavens opened and continued to stay
open for the rest of the day! The jumps were raised for round
2. The ground soon became a bog and it was impossible to warm
up, coupled with the horizontal rain and driving wind, it was
not pleasant! Many horses slipped, stopped and deposited
riders! However, both OS&B teams had fabulous rounds; OSB 2
ended up with 4 faults (making their total 4 faults) and OSB 1
also had 4 faults (making their total 8 faults). The
weather/ground continued to be appalling when we found out that
OSB 2 were the outright winners and OSB 1 had to jump off for 2nd
and 3rd place with our hosts, West Kent (Sevenoaks)!
The girls rode their third rounds of the day incredibly well in
these horrible conditions ended up with 0 faults which took them
to 2nd place overall – runners up to OSB 2!

Both
teams on parade
This is an amazing result
and we were told that this is the first time in the history of
this competition that two teams from the same pony club have
qualified for the National Novice Championships. This result
was more than we dared to hope for and a real joy for all of us.
Well done to OSB 2 – Hannah
Martin, Katie Rennie, Bryony McPake and Elizabeth Matthews for
winning this competition – they were very pleased with their
sashes!

OSB 2 – Elizabeth Matthews, Bryony McPake, Hannah
Martin and Katie Rennie
Congratulations also to OSB
1 – Hannah Marshall, Hannah Simpson, Alice and Heidi Cousins for
coming 2nd.

OSB 1
– Hannah Marshall, Hannah Simpson, Alice and Heidi Cousins
Congratulations also to
Elizabeth Matthews who came 4th overall in the Individual
Section and qualified for Championships.
This is the second year
running that Hannah Martin, Katie and Alice have qualified for
the Novice Championships representing OS&B albeit that Hannah
and Alice have now moved onto horses.
We would all like to say a
big thank you to Sam Holland for her training. Also many thanks
to Susie King for organising/supporting the teams and to Mrs
Bradley for braving the weather and giving up her time to
support us on the day. Mrs Bradley was as happy as the girls
during prize giving!
Leaving the show ground was
not easy – we all had to be towed out by tractors!
Lastly, congratulations to
the Mini team, who finished two rounds with just 8 faults
between them. Well done!

Morgan, Scott, Nicole and Lucy
Intermediate
Championships Area Qualifier
There were 12 teams taking
part in this event and OS&B had one team taking part. Emily
Collins riding Rocko, Claudia Thornett riding Jubilee Sandpiper
and Jess Hampson riding Gypsy Race. Unfortunately, their fourth
member Georgia Dollemore riding Lara’s Song had to withdrawn as
Lara had a sore back.
The tack check and tack and
turnout competition came first and the girls were very pleased
to come 6th in this. They all looked extremely
smart.
With the weather and ground
conditions awful, the girls all rode superbly over a challenging
course to come a creditable 5th place overall in this
competition.
Congratulations to Emily,
Claudia and Jess.
Mini mini Team Show Jumping
2nd July. Pacheshame.
We went with one mini mini, under 10's team, with only three
riders the all girl team had a tough job ahead. Ronni
Harding-Wood on Bella, Morgann Bloquet on Buzz and Lucy
Martin on Topic, all three girls did great first rounds, just 4
faults left them in a good position, they all had to jump the
jump off, with 3 perfect clear rounds finishing the day in 2nd
place over all. It was Ronni's first ever team competition, she
did a fantastic job on Bella, Lucy and Morgann also did lovely
rounds, they all supported each other. 2nd Place was a great
achievement as they were the only team with 3 riders. Watching
them playing together between classes was a delight and part of
what PC teams should be about. They all had a fun day together.

The Novice team deserve a special prize for sportsmanship !,
they were all so good humoured if disappointed, they still had
a 6th place ribbon !, I was very proud of them all at their
gracious manor in defeat, we put it down to experience ! We all
had a fun day together, Thank you Sue King for putting teams
together and coming over to support the teams on Saturday.
OSB SJ TEAM WINNERS !
SANDS FARM NOVICE SHOWJUMPING 23RD FEB.
Sands Farm turned out to be not the wet, miserable day it began
as for the OSB Novice Team: Harry Gillham on new pony Rob,
Rebecca Woodhouse on Ronnie, Harry Hickmet with Smo and Hannah
Martin on new ride Etty. Each jumped good warm up rounds, being
a great start with some 45 entries in the individual class,
Hannah on Etty finished 5th, well done to them.
With 12 teams we were last to jump, first time new team member
Becky Woodhouse kept her nerve on clever Ronnie (as did
Cathy!) to do two fantastic clear rounds. Harry (G) always
cool with lovely Rob, Hannah on gorgeous Etty and Harry (H) on
thrilling Smo put the team into the jump off. All the riders
had clear rounds, Harry Hickmet last to go did his usual
exciting round, knew he had to go fast as the team was clear to
help put the team into 1st place over all.
It was a very thrilling, fun day out despite the constant rain,
the team were a delight to be with plus a result they were all
delighted with particularly Becky, being her first team event.
Thank you Sue King for putting
the team together.

A Big
Thank you to Sam Holland
Sam Holland generously
donated the prize of an individual or shared show jumping lesson
as a raffle prize at Old Surrey & Burstow’s Barn Dance last
year.
Eleanor Smale was lucky
enough to have the winning ticket and kindly shared her prize
with Alice and Heidi Cousins. The girls had a fabulous show
jumping lesson on Sunday, 6th February at Haylands
Farm with Sam. Eleanor rode Nigella, Heidi rode Prince and Sam
kindly provided her wonderful horse Ed for Alice to ride.
Eleanor, Alice and Heidi
would like to thank Sam very much.

Team and Individual Show
Jumping hosted by Southdown Hunt East, Ardingly, 23rd
January
Novice Individual Scurry
There were 42 entrants in
this class. Competing for OS&B was Harry Hickmet riding Hannah,
Heidi Cousins riding Take Two, Molly Walsh riding William’s
Dream Boy and Melissa Cheeseman riding Cappucino. They all rode
extremely well over what was a very twisty course with lots of
tight turns. A rather spooky fence number 3 caught many riders
and ponies out.
Heidi Cousins and Take Two
did very well to finish 5th place overall, with Harry
Hickmet and Hannah coming 6th. Both Heidi and Harry
jumped beautiful clear rounds.
Novice Team Jumping – 2ft
9
Due to such large entries
(16 teams) it was decided that this class would take the form of
a scurry with each team member’s time (and faults) added
together. The best 3 of each team would be added together to
create a final score. The course was well built, technical and
up-to-height.
The class was won by the
OS&B Elders Team - Hannah Marshal riding Totthamhill Rhodri,
Claudia Thornett on Jubilee Sandpiper, Emily Collins on Rocka
and Georgia Dollemore riding Lara's Song.

The OS&B Red Team consisted
of Harriet Gillam riding Rob, Heidi Cousins riding Take Two,
Melissa Cheesman riding Cappucino and Harry Hickmet riding
Little Indian Chief. This was the first time the
children had competed together as a team. Harriet, Heidi,
Melissa and Harry all jumped the most beautiful clear rounds in
super fast times and finished in 2nd place overall.
Well done team! We all finally drove out of the car park at
7.30 pm; tired but happy!

The Tet
Team, consisting of Chloe Wood (Ryan) and George Matthews (Macey)
both had lovely clear rounds but unfortunately Elizabeth
Matthews (Fizz) and Jamie Sterritt (Daisy) were having an
off-day so the team finished on 8 faults.
The OS&B Blue Team of Katie Brookes (Portmore Frank) and Briony
McPake (Gingerbread Jilly) both had clear but steady rounds.
Unfortunately Katie Rennie on Sam also thought she'd done a
great clear until she left the ring and realised she had missed
out part of the course - so it was all down to Hannah Martin on
Oedia Van Hoversynde (Etty) to jump clear. Sadly it was not
"Blue's" day as Hannah and Etty came crashing down on the
corner where in the previous class Katie Brookes and Portmore
Frank had fallen. Fortunately although out of the ribbons,
everyone was very happy that none of our horses or riders had
been injured by horrible falls caused by the poor ground
conditions. (3 horses fell and several slipped at this corner
during the day).
