Bisley ODE 2nd May

Eight of our Members went to Bisley to compete in the Level 3 class at their One Day Event. Two teams were entered.

The Blue Team  were Megan Cole on Boyd, Abi Boyd on Emerald Court, Harriet Gillam on Rob and Georgia Dollemore on Lara’s Song.

The green team were Megan Cole on Master Shuil, Rebekka Barrow on Delta, Bryony McPake on Gingerbread Jilly and Alex Stone on Dolly Mix.

Megan on Boyd came first in her Arena, Abi Boyd came first in hers and Harriet Gillam came 6th in hers which enabled the team to come first overall.

Rebekka Barrow won the Dressage in her Arena and came 8th and Bryony McPake came 8th in hers. Unfortunately, the green team were out of the placings.

Sadly, there were a few problems for some of us at the water. Alex Stone’s horse took exception to the canoe in the water, shot sideways sending poor Alex out of the side door! After a trip to hospital everyone was relieved to hear that her injuries were just bruising but I am sure still painful. Georgia’s horse had a bit of trouble at the step and then at the water unfortunately forcing her to have to retire. Master Shuil, Megan’s ex pointer, also wasn’t too keen on the canoe but with a little persuasion managed to get through the water only to have another fright at the next fence, the white tyres (which to be fair to him did look like giant polo mints!) He did manage to jump them on the second attempt and finished the rest of the course without any trouble.

I am proud to say that everyone looked immaculate and were very supportive to each other, what a lovely way to start the season?! Well done to you all and good luck for the rest of the Eventing season,

Nicky

2010 Season

Borde Hill Unaffiliated Horse Trials 2/3 October 2010

A team from O, S & B went off to Borde Hill in the most appalling conditions so far this season.  Torrential rain all weekend meant that lorries and trailers were being towed “in” to the event.  Mud was knee deep from the start.  Claudia Thornett, Hannah Marshall and Ashleigh and Georgia Dollemore represented the O, S & B in this unaffiliated open event.  The team managed to complete their dressage tests before the heavens opened – which continued for the rest of the competition.  Each section was crammed full with 35 competitors in each of the 4 arenas.  The girls got some great dressage scores, which put them up in the top rankings before the show jumping phase.  Ashleigh, Georgia and Claudia all did a fantastic clear in the show jumping, Hannah had a very unlucky couple of poles despite Roddy jumping his heart out of the deepening mud!  Because of the worsening conditions the girls went straight out onto the cross country course, Hannah, Claudia and Ashleigh finishing with a great clear (although nearly every competitor gaining a few time faults), Georgia unfortunately had a few troubles with the water complex.  Final positions – Claudia and Ashleigh both came and incredible 2nd place in their Arenas and the team came an amazing 1st place!   Well done girls, despite the horrific conditions we had a great time – didn’t we?

Jamie Sterritt represented OSB in the Intro class at Borde Hill on Saturday.  Lying joint second after the dressage phase, he and Daisy jumped a double clear but unfortunately got time faults on the cross country, and ended up with the last rosette in 10th place.  It was a very well-organised event with the only drawback being the incessant rain!

Congratulations to Abby Boyd

who won her section at the Pony Club Intermediate Eventing Championships at Draycott.

With many thanks to Sally Cruise who trains Abby and the Branch Event organiser Nicky Cole who organises all the training sessions with Sally for Novice and above.

Area Horse Trials 2010 - 5th August             ......................................report by Nicky Cole

Two Novice Teams consisting of Blue Team: Claudia Thornett, Ashleigh Dollemore, Gemma Allen and Hannah Marshall. Green Team: Hannah Simpson, Emily Collins and Megan Jones

One Intermediate Team of Megan Cole ,Abi Boyd, Jess Hampson and Tabitha Worsley

A big thank you to Hannah Marshall for stepping in at the last minute when Eleanor Smale sadly had to withdraw as her horse had a bit of a filled leg. This enabled the blue team to stay as a team of four but unfortunately the green team had to become a team of three as there was no time to substitute Emma Stovell who also had to withdraw due to illness.

All competed at the Area 11 Horse Trials at Coombelands on the 5th August.

It was a well attended competition with 22 Novice Teams, 15 Intermediate teams and several individuals from all the Area 11 Branches Taking Part. Despite the ground being hard this summer, the cross country course was very well prepared with sand and rubber on the take- off and landing sides at most of the jumps and the track had been mostly airovated in the hardest places. The jumps were dressed with flowers and greenery all looking attractive to the riders and a little frightening to the horses!

For our Novice Teams this was their first time riding in the Novice Area Horse Trials and all rode really well and were very smartly turned out for all three phases . Sadly neither team qualified for the Novice Championships but Claudia Thornett came second in her arena as did Ashleigh Dollemore in hers with Ashleigh qualifying as an individual and so is off to the Novice Eventing champs on her aptly named Brooksby Going Solo ! Very well done to all and fingers crossed for Ashleigh .

The Intermediate Team all rode very well again but for some reason all had bad luck rolling some poles in the Show Jumping Phase which pushed us down the overall placings . Megan managed an 8th place in  her arena and Abi Boyd 5th in hers . An individual  from another branch who qualified in Abi’s arena has declined her place at the Intermediate Champs and so Abi has been given the place ! GOOD LUCK TO ASHLEIGH AND ABI !! Nicky Cole

Wivelsden Farm  ODE   27th June 2010                    ..................report by Tracey Dollemore

Two Novice riders represented O, S & B on 27th June at Wivelsden Farm they were Ashleigh Dollemore and Rebecca Barrow (who took 2 horses).

Ashleigh and Rebecca started early in the day and all 3 horses did a respectable dressage test Ashleigh coming 3rd in the dressage arena.  The Show Jumping phase caught all riders out with a pole each, whilst they all went a superb clear on the demanding cross country phase.  Ashleigh and Rebecca won their respective arenas and Rebecca came 2nd with her other ride.  If they were allowed to be a team (with just 2 riders and 3 horses) they would have also won the competition as a team!  Well done girls an amazing result just ahead of Area and against adults as well as this was an open competition.

20th June 2010 - ODE Coombelands - Level 3                  ...............report by Tracey Dollemore

There was a big class in the Level 3 event at Coombelands on 20th June with 14 teams entered.  Our team consisted of Claudia Thornett, Ashleigh Dollemore, Emily Collins and Rebecca Barrow.  The girls all did a good dressage test with Claudia achieving a 28%, Ashleigh 34%, Emily 36% and Rebecca 40% which put them in a strong position for the next two phases.  Both Ashleigh and Claudia jumped a beautiful clear round, whilst Emily had an unlucky stop and Rebecca had an unfortunate pole down.  The cross country followed, it was a lovely course with lots of room to stretch the horses out.  All our riders did fantastic clear rounds.  The team did exceedingly well finishing in 2nd place by just a few points and Claudia was 3rd and Ashleigh in 5th place in their respective arenas.  It was a lovely day and the girls had a lot of fun and laughter together – very good team spirit!

Bisley ODE                                                                               .....................report  by Nicky Cole

A novice team of Megan Cole ,Abi Boyd ,Jess Hampson and Hannah Marshall went to Bisley PC on Sunday 9th May.
This is a really nice venue for our first competition of the season but one not to be sniffed at. The best part of the day though is the commentator on the cross country !

With the dressage arenas right beside the cross country, and the excitement of a new season beginning ,Megan and Abi rode a rather lively dressage test to say the least ! Hannah and Jesss's arena's were a little further away so had much better behaved horses.

Despite this they somehow managed to produce quite nice scores to take them on to the show jumping . All four members jumped clear in a fairly small arena and some colourful fences which caused a few poles to drop for other teams .
The cross country was much the same as previous years .Luckily our team weren't scared of the water jump and managed to jump a double of log piles in the wood which were each no wider than an armchair (no exaggeration !). Poor Hannah's pony Roddy didn't realise he had to fit between the flags and so had an unfortunate stop there but with three 0 cross country scores to add to our team score we managed to win the day.Megan  also won her section, Abi came 2nd  and Jess 4th in theirs.
Well done to them all a great start to the season

Eridge ODE - 8th May 2010

Novice – Level 3 Team –Claudia Thornett, Ashleigh Dollemore, Hannah Simpson & Emma Stovell.

We had a lovely (despite very cold) day at Eridge which started off well with good dressage scores from the girls, with Claudia scoring a wonderful 32 which put her high up on the leader board.  All our team went clear over the show jumping, with an unlucky step back at the water in the cross country for Ashleigh the team did a very good job.  Claudia maintain her high position and came a fantastic 2nd play.  The competition was just too tight to get the other girls placed.

Level 2 Individual – Georgia Dollemore and Kelly Bowring

Once again some very competitive dressage scores from our girls – which put Kelly up high on the leader board, with Georgia not far behind.  After the dressage Kelly Bowring riding Brendan was in lying 4th place, Georgia Dollemore riding Snoopy was in 6th place and Chloe Wood riding Ryan in 12th. All three girls did a great clears over the show jumping but due to tight timing, Georgia gained an unfortunate 7 time faults which dropped her from 4th place to 10th in the final rankings.  Chloe and Georgia jumped clear in the cross country but Kelly had an unlucky stop over the cross country which sadly put her out of the placings this time.   End results were Chloe equal 5th, Georgia 10th and Kelly 13th
